Fall Parent Training
October 19, 2017 (6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.)
Location - Shaler Area Elementary School

Each year, the school district has a Fall Parent Training for parents of students in the Title I Reading Program.  The district’s Title I program is for students in grades 1,2,3 who receive extra support in reading. Our program is a targeted assistance program which means we focus on helping our youngest learners attain the reading skills they need for success in the upper grades. Four of the five primary schools qualify for assistance from the federal government. These schools have economically disadvantaged (ED) populations of 34% or more. Burchfield and Rogers Primary Schools are Title I Like since they do not meet the ED requirement. The students of that school receive the same services as the other four primary buildings; however, funding is provided by the school district, not the federal government. At the Title I Parent Training, parents learned about the Title I Program and they learned hands on reading strategies that they can use at home with their Title I students. The Title I teachers lead families through the training. Each family took home three grade level appropriate books and a family activity guide.  Books and materials were purchased from Scholastic.
