PARENTS' ROLE

WHAT ROLE DO PARENTS/CAREGIVERS PLAY?

As a parent/caregiver, you are part of the Title I team.  You influence your child's education more than any teacher or school.  Your involvement can boost your child's achievement!  Each school has their own unique Parent Involvement Policy. These are distributed to Title I parents in September. The policy outlines the school's role and your role. By taking an active role in Title I you'll show your child:

  • How important he or she is to you.
  • How important education is to you.
  • That you and the school are a team, working to help children succeed.

An invitation is extended to the parents of all eligible Title I students to meet Title I personnel and to learn what Title I is all about. The annual Title I parent meeting is held in May.  At this meeting, Title I teachers train you alongside your student with at home reading practices. Participants always receive a bag of goodies to take home.

At the Fall Curriculum NIghts, caregivers learn about Title I:

  • Learn about your rights as a Title I parent
  • Meet other parents and teachers
  • Begin a process of communication and cooperation between parents and schools

When a student is taught by a teacher without the appropriate certification, this letter is sent home. Currently, all teachers in the SASD are appropriately certified.
The compact explains the roles of the teacher, student, and parent in the Title I program.
This form is used if you have a concern or complaint about the Title I program.
