Permits
If you want to use any of the schools facilities a permit is required.

To apply for a permit you must fill out a Permit Request Form, review School Board Policy 707 and complete a Pre-Use/Verification Form to determine what group type you are and what fees your group will be responsible for.

To reserve gym or field time, you must submit a permit request each year.  Permit applications for gyms and fields must be turned in following the schedule below:

May 1 for gym or field time from Sept. 1 – Nov. 30
Aug. 1 for gym or field time from Dec. 1 – Feb. 28
Dec. 1 for gym or field time from Mar. 1 – June 3

Feb. 1 for field time from June 3 – Aug. 30 (gyms are not available in the summer)

If you had the facility last year and your permit request is not received by the date listed above then the facility will be opened up for use by another group.

Be advised, due to new Title IX regulations, more information about your use of facilities may be required in the future.

Submit the permit to the permit department either via fax to 412-492-1233, email to permits@sasd.k12.pa.us or mail to Shaler Area School District, 1660 Butler Plank Road, Glenshaw, PA, 15116.  If you want to email the form you will have to fill it out and save it then email it as an attachment to permits@sasd.k12.pa.us.  When submitting your permit request you must submit a current Certificate of Insurance with Shaler Area School District listed as an additional insured on the certificate.  No permit can be processed without a certificate of insurance.

Once received your request is reviewed by the district and if approved a permit is issued and sent to you.  If your permit is not approved or if there are any questions you will be contacted by the permit office.

Average turn around time on a permit request is 14 working days so be sure to submit your request with ample turn around time.

If you need to reach someone in the permit department call 412-492-1200, ext. 2903.
Summer Employment

Each summer the school district staff of custodians and maintenance employees prepare our buildings for the next school year.  The work involved includes cleaning, scrubbing, waxing floors, repairing furniture and buildings, moving all types of equipment and supplies, as well as maintaining the buildings and grounds.  Summer employees work with the regular staff to accomplish these tasks.

Applications are available in the counseling offices at the High School, at the Buildings and Grounds Office, in the Human Resource office located in the Adminstrative Offices at 1800 Mt. Royal Boulevard, and also online starting at end of February.  Applications must be submitted in writing and should be returned to the counseling office or the Human Resource office.  Applications can be mailed to Shaler Area School District, 1800 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, PA, 15116, Attn: Human Resources.  We are unable to accept applications online at this time.

If we have an overwhelming response a lottery is used to rank the names of eligible applicants.  The lottery is held at the April board meeting.  Applicants must be a resident of Shaler Area and 16 years of age as of the last day of school to be eligilble for employment.

Recycling Program
Shaler Area School District has started a paper recycling program with Abitibi Paper Retriever.  All schools have a paper recycling bin set up outside the school for newspapers, magazines, office and school papers, shopping catalogs, and mail. No plastic, glass, metal, cardboard or trash are to be put in these bins.  Each school will receive money back from Abitibi for the amount of paper that is recycled.  Anyone who would like to put their recycled paper into these bins are welcome.  It's an easy way to help the schools raise some money
